Frequently asked questions

New to the show or preparedness in general? Here are the things people ask most.

What is The Common Sense Practical Prepper about?

It is a weekly podcast and blog about being prepared as a normal person with a normal budget. No doom, no zombies — just straightforward advice on food storage, home security, situational awareness, off-grid living, privacy, and family planning that actually works for everyday folks.

Do I need to spend a lot of money to get started?

No. Most of what matters early on is free or cheap: building a pantry from food you already eat, storing water, making a family plan, and practicing awareness. I focus on the highest-impact steps first so you are never buying gear you do not understand or cannot afford.

Is this show political or full of fear?

Neither is the goal. The whole point is calm, practical preparedness. I talk about real risks — storms, outages, supply hiccups, everyday safety — and what a reasonable person can actually do about them, without the fear-mongering.

What is "The Lone Man On The Ridge"?

It is an ongoing fiction series woven into the show. It follows Jack and his group through a realistic grid-down scenario. It is entertainment, but it is also a way to think through decisions and consequences before you ever face them.

How often do new episodes come out?

New episodes drop multiple times a week. You can listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts, and full episode notes live right here on the site.

Where can I suggest a topic or ask a question?

Just email me at practicalpreppodcast@gmail.com. I read every message I get, and I answer. If there is something specific you would like to learn more about, let me know and I will put together an episode about it — listener questions and stories turn into full episodes all the time.

Are the resources really free?

Yes. Every checklist, guide, and template on the Resources page is free to download and share. If it helps you get your household a little more prepared, it is doing its job.

Still have a question?

Ask anything, or suggest a topic — listener questions turn into full episodes all the time.
